Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 12 minutes

Servings: 10–12 biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 stick (½ cup) butter, cold

  • ¾ cup buttermilk

  • 1 small can diced jalapeños (drained)

  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and work it into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the jalapeños and cheddar cheese.

  5. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until a dough begins to form.

  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Fold the dough, roll it out, then turn clockwise. Repeat this process 5–6 times.

  7. Roll the dough out to about ¾ inch thickness.

  8. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or glass. Place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  9. Bake for 12 minutes, or until biscuits are golden brown.
